Figaro and thorns
This necklace started as scraps of metal from projects past and ideas that never took form. Using a torch, the metal was melted down and cast into simple forms using charcoal. This process allows for a level of experimentation that results in a unique object that takes on the natural texture of the burnt charcoal.
The figaro curb chain was created entirely by hand— forming, cutting and torching each link. They are connecting in the traditional figaro pattern: 3 short links and one long link. Once assembled, the entire necklace is pulled, twisted and hammered flat over and over again to become a flat curb chain.
The heart has thorns details across the front that were carved using the dying art of hand pushed engraving.
Each piece of this collection is a small artifact that reflects care and balance in its making. Everything is individually constructed by hand, using recycled materials. The outcome reminds me of the small rock I carry around in my pocket, A small memento that holds memories and brings a sense of comfort.
